More Information About this ProjectProject Needs and BeneficiariesDozens of hospitals and clinics in Cuba have been seriously damaged by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. "This devastation has left hospital staff unable to meet the medical needs of their patients and have thus put thousands of lives at risk," said Kathleen Hower, Executive Director. Global Links, one of a few federally licensed programs working in Cuba since 1994, is in a unique position to offer immediate and long-term assistance to support public health in the country. Working in collaboration with the World Health Organization/ Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Cuban Ministry of Health, Global Links sent six containers of urgently needed medical supplies, equipment and furnishings to assist hospitals in regions most impacted by the hurricanes. The last four containers were shipped within the final weeks of October and will conclude our hurricane relief efforts for the year.
